Lynne Higgins
CHEO of Chattanooga President 2010
Elected CHEO's president in March 2010, Lynne has been privileged to preside during a whirlwind year of activities made possible by our wonderful CHEO volunteers. Together we have continued the vision of CHEO’s founders, Suzanna Alexander and Carol Shelby – to provide educational events about holistic, alternative and complementary wellness practices to our community.
In June, past president, Tami Freedman, and her committee partnered with Alexian Brothers & Senior Neighbors to organize a day for community members to experience a variety of Energy Therapy presentations and workshops by eight CHEO practitioners.
CHEO volunteers staffed our display booths to share information about CHEO and our programs with attendees at Eco Expo in April & Healthy Living Expo in October.
In August, Mary Alice Crãpo, Chairperson for our annual Healthwise Fair & Conference, vice-president Phil Gawthrop and the committee organized a remarkable day of lectures, exhibits and demonstrations at Heritage House. Twenty-eight CHEO members presented information about their specialties with lectures and exhibits. The Tai Ji Community, Asala Center, and Yoga East presented mini-classes and demonstrations on the veranda throughout the day. And, Tami Freedman once again organized the Silent Auction, which began at HealthWise and continued on-line through September.
This year the CHEO Boards of Chattanooga and Knoxville voted to upgrade for new technology compatibility the CHEO website that Tami Freedman and Faye Henry did such an excellent job of developing in 2006. For the last several months, Lynne and Mary Ann have worked closely with web developer Mark Porter of Porter Web Designs to bring you the new CHEO website – going live on Monday, December 6th. They say they feel like proud parents announcing the birth of a child. "In lieu of cigars, we encourage you to join us in celebrating with organic dark chocolate. . . . a whole lot of it."
CHEO of Greater Knoxville Area celebrated their first anniversary as an independent CHEO sister organization in July, and will publish their 2nd bi-annual member resource directory in January, 2011. Congratulations, Knoxville!
CHEO of Chattanooga will follow suit with publication of our 5th bi-annual member resource directory in February, 2011.
Lynne encourages every CHEO member to make the most of their membership experience and join in volunteer opportunities in 2011. Together, we are CHEO and we make it happen.
