Q and A with Sue:
What brought you to Alternative Health and the field/product you’re involved with? Like many people in Alternative Health, I was brought to the field by a serious personal health challenge that left me disabled for some time. When conventional medicine was unable to help, I realized that I needed to learn how to be my own healer and advocate. I was luckier than most in that I had already been on the faculty of the University of South Florida Medical School for many years, and had been part of a teaching/training team in a teaching hospital for almost two decades, so I was educated. Still, if I could not easily find people who could diagnose and treat me, it was clear that others were even more unprepared to face similar health challenges without support.
So tell me about how you got started in your work? I started as a clinical psychologist (Ph.D., UTK), working in the conventional medical arena, but always had an interest in the spiritual and metaphysical. Though trained as a scientist/practitioner, my later study of comparative religions familiarized me with spiritual practices used to maintain and restore health. My own health challenge led to retirement from the practice of psychology, eventually beginning work as a Life Guide Coach, and then on to certification as a Certified Eden Energy Medicine Practitioner.
What do you like to do in your spare time? What do you do for fun? I love to travel, be it locally or internationally. I also love photography, reading, teaching, organic gardening, spending time with friends, and learning new healing skills.
Are you married, have you ever been married, etc? Kids? Pets? I’ve been married for 19 years, and all of our children have four feet. One of our rescue cats was brought back from the edge of death by using Energy Medicine for animals. Some day we hope to find another dog as well. This Spring, we’ll start keeping a few hens for organic eggs. And we have many wild birds, bees and butterflies that are supported in our wildlife-friendly habitat.
What services do you offer? Eden Energy Medicine uses 9 basic energy systems to balance and harmonize your body’s own innate healing abilities. It integrates practices from many cultures, going back 5000 years. Meridians and chakras are probably the energy systems best known to most people. All the practices work with what other cultures respectively call chi, qi, or prana—words that all refer to our life energy.
I teach classes and study groups on Introductory Energy Medicine, Energy Medicine for Women, and the Energies of Love. Classes or study groups may be arranged by contacting me at sue.gridley(at)gmail.com with the key words Energy Medicine in the subject line, or by visiting my website www.care4.org.
I also do individual Energy Medicine sessions in northwest Georgia (about 30 minutes from Chattanooga) by referral or on approval after meeting or talking with a client.
Do you feel what you provide is holistic health care, alternative health care, complementary health care services or do you care what it’s labeled? What I provide is all of those in that it supports natural healing. Energy Medicine does not take the place of conventional medicine, but it can be an integral part of a person’s overall health practice. Energy Healing is the oldest, safest form of healing on Earth.
What advice do you have for people looking to get into your field of practice? Do your research about what options are available to you in this burgeoning field. Find a course of study that fits you. Take a class or study group with me. My search brought me to Eden Energy Medicine (www.innersource.net). Realize that you will need to devote time and money to successfully complete an organized, accredited course of study. Then follow your bliss.
What is the most remarkable thing you’ve seen in your business? Inspirational story: When I was in the second year of the certification program for Eden Energy Medicine, I met a friend at the beach after a week of classes. While demonstrating a session on her, I found that Kidney meridian was out of harmony. When I told her, she said she wasn’t going to mention it, but she had recently been found to have nodules on her kidney and was to have a biopsy the next week. We only had one session, but I unblocked the energy flow in Kidney meridian and balanced her other energies, and when she went back for the biopsy, the new diagnostic test showed no evidence of nodules. She needed no further treatment. That was one of the first times I confirmed what I do by finding a previously diagnosed medical condition, using EM to help it, and then having a conventional medical test verify that the problem was resolved.
What is the one thing you want the public to understand about your services that you feel they don’t? Everyone can learn to use energy to create balance and harmony. A qualified practitioner can not only work ON you, but work WITH you to teach you how to do simple routines that will keep your energies flowing.
